ARTICLE 4 - MANAGEMENT & TRAIL (Applicable to Ride ‘n’ Tie, Competitive and Endurance)
- The Ride managers must be OCTRA members
- The Ride manager or trail master may not compete in that ride that they have undertaken to run
- Ride management must determine in advance the Honorarium to be offered to the participating veterinarians and other judges and must have a clear understanding with the judges of the period over which their services will be required.
- Ride management is responsible for ensuring that all judges and other officials are acquainted with their duties and have the necessary equipment. One veterinarian with their own equipment must be on site to deal with an emergency should one arise, or an on-call veterinarian must be available, within no more than a 15 minute drive from the ride site. The owner and/or rider of a horse requiring treatment shall be responsible for any or all medical expenses incurred.
- A farrier should be appointed for each ride. Charges for his services will be paid directly by the rider.
- A trailer must be available to transport horses that have been pulled during the course of the ride
- Management must assign one recorder per judge and appoint a Head Recorder who has had experience recording on previous OCTRA sanctioned rides. She/he shall ensure that all recorders know and understand the procedures involved.
- The Head Recorder shall be responsible for collecting all notes from the judges' recorders and make sure all information is ready for final calculations and assessments.
- Management must appoint a Head P/R technician who shall ensure that all P/R teams know and understand the procedures involved using both the Heart Rate Monitor Wands and stethoscopes.
- Vet check areas shall be clearly defined and identified and must be safe and ‘hazard free’ where possible.
- Likewise, the pulse and respiration areas shall be roped off and one person designated to .. call times and send riders in for their readings where possible
- A complete list (names & addresses) of ALL ride staff must be sent to the PULSE Editor and the Chair of the Worker Credit Committee within 2 weeks of the ride.
- Riders' score cards and results must be in riders’ hands within two to three weeks of the ride in order that they may have an idea of the horse's performance in preparing for the next ride
