ARTICLE 9 - RIDE ‘N TIE RULES
- General Management, Health Requirements and disqualifications apply
- A team must consist of two rider/runners and one horse
- Each team must tie and exchange (approximately every 5 miles) at the designated Vet Check areas. The horse must be ridden in to and out of these checks. The team mate arriving with the horse may elect to either tie it and proceed on foot, or have the horse vetted, tie it, and then proceed on foot. The remaining team mate must depart mounted from the Vet Check
- Both rider/runners of a team may not use the horse simultaneously (e.g., tailing, riding double, etc.,)
- Horses must not be tied to vehicles nor hand held. Unless otherwise posted, tying on private property is not permitted.
- Horses must be tied so they do not obstruct the trail.
- Competitors and Pit Crews may not tamper with tied horses, or deliberately influence the behaviour of horses belonging to other teams.
- Pit Crews may assist teams at several locations on the trail, however, they may untie and lead horses ONLY at the Vet Checks.
- Horses must be presented by the COMPETITORS ONLY at all Veterinary inspections and P/R checks
- In order to proceed from the Vet Checks each horse's vital signs must meet the following basic criteria (see * below):

- Temperature, if taken, must be less than 103F (39.5C).
- Overall physical condition must be good.
- Animal must be willing to continue.
* Subject to modification by Veterinary Judges or ride management.
- 15 Any horse whose vital signs do not meet these criteria will be detained up to 30 minutes 16 If, after this time, the animal has not recovered, the team will be eliminated from the competition
- A final examination of each horse will be made 30 minutes after it has completed the ride. To qualify for placing, the same basic criteria must be met. All horses, whether they complete the ride or not, must be presented for a final examination.
TIMING
- The maximum time allowed will be determined by Ride Management prior to the start
- The official finish time for each team will be determined when the last member of the team crosses the finish line. At this point, teams may either ride or lead their horses.
- The winning team is the team with the shortest completion time (having met all other criteria)
