Saw this posted through a magazine site, although it seems to be directed at a dressage crowd, it sounds like there should be one for each sport.
Not sure if anyone has already been looking into this, but I thought I would share just in case!

FYI Enduranc as far as I know is not :"officially" a Pan Am discipline I would think the chair positions etc....are for those.
As far as I know the only official equestrian sports are dressage, eventing and jumping.
Usually the endurance people run a Pan Am type event at the same time though . good question Misha! |

| This was discussed at least two years ago by Endurance Canada when we first learned of the PanAm location, but nobody in the area bit on taking on the job of setting up a ride (if I recall the timing, we were in the throws of the Nationals, so nobody was keen on even talking about a bigger event at the time). |

| There also could be major funding involved it someone wanted to take it on. $20,000 or so. Craig at EC knows more about the funding and could be applied to put on a test event first, then the actual championship. |

| Endurance and Combined Driving are NOT Olympic sports so they do not have funded Pan Ams nor Olympics. However Endurance has (usually) run a (Pan Ams) FEI ride during the regulation Pan Ams for hrses. Myna Cryderman ran an Endurance Championship when the other disciplines had a Pan Ams there in Manitoba. I am sure the US expects OCTRA to run a big ride during the Pan Am Toronto. If you are concerned now contact Lesley Danko, she may have plans? Nancy B. |

Maybe we should have it here in the Ganaraska. After all, we do have 400 miles of public trails here, plus private lands.

| Bob, talk to Craig Andreas(?) at Equine Canada - there is (or was) a pile of money available working with them from Sport Canada to put on 1st a test event and then the actual one. I will try to dig up the email that was sent first to Esau and then a bunch of us. |

| I am sure if you wanted to host a Big One, Bob, that everyone would appreciate that. By all means go for it ! Financial planning for a Pan Ams now would be a wise thing . Get your Committee formed and apply for Funding OEF. Get the word out ! Get a committee now and you are ahead of the game! Nancy Beacon |

Hi Bob. Even though I'm still a newbie I would be happy to help too and even be part of the committee if you want me to! I'd love to ride in it too (I'm dreaming big here as I know there is quite the qualification process to go through for this level of competition - but, hey, you gotta dream, right?), but would also love to help - not sure if it's even possible to ride and help out. Ganaraska seems like a great choice!

The event that is run at the same time as the Pan Ams for endurance has normally been called a North American Championship. The last one I competed in was in Maryland. Typically it is a 100 mile FEI ride, no other distance offered. The countries are broken up into divisions within in their country for Canada it is East and West. People compete and have to qualify for a team placing. Which means people who are interested in this level of competition have to go through the FEI star levels to qualify for the event. It is a huge event and very expensive to host. It is an amazing event to take part in. Just wanted to provide a snippet of information for OCTRA members so they know what this is.
It is great that we have two members already considering hosting the event. Deb |

In its latest incarnation, this past year (2011) it was held in Chile, John Crandall, Val Kanavie, Meg Sleeper(?) & Melody Blittsdorf from the US fielded a team. The rest of the games were held in Mexico. John finished 2nd, Val 3rd and with Meg got team silver. It was called the Pan Am Endurance Championship and was over 120 km and looks like it had a YR portion the day before or after. It might have several options on how it is run. It would just be awesome to have it here in Ontario! Nancy has sent Bob the information we received about the potential grants - it is for up to $50,000 - I think an OC could put on a pretty decent ride using that . If anyone else wishes to see the information concerning the grants, contact Nancy or myself. The OC has to work with EC in order to get the funds. |

| OCTRA as an organizations wouldn't have much to do unless we ran it as an organization, but we could provide and support volunteers, area trail expertise, more volunteers and the majority of the Canada East team would potentially be OCTRA members - so a cheering and crewing crowd. |
