| Nancy Beacon & Mike Cottenden hosted the Canadian Competitive Trail Ride Championship at their farm, Rabbit Run, in Flesherton, Ontario. This is Nancy welcoming everyone at the opening ceremonies. She made sure to point out to everyone that the flowers were all grown by Wendy and Emma Webb, who started them in the spring in anticipation of the event. The flowers really were gorgeous. | ![]() |

Chris Morrison from Alberta played O Canada at the opening and closing ceremonies. And those of us who were lucky enough to be up at the vet check at Beaver Valley Ski Club on Sunday were treated to a wonderful impromptu concert. We were also treated to a spectacular thunderstorm with howling winds and drenching, billowing rain, but that's another story... |
| The piper led the teams in a parade for the opening ceremonies. Most of the horses took this with great equanimity (except Cob, who seemed a little energized by it). That's Myna Cryderman from Manitoba, and Trish Dowling from Saskatchewan. Myna's horse cramped on Saturday, and was pulled from the ride. But was fine by the next day. Peter Renton (president of OCTRA) is standing in front talking to the piper. | ![]() |
![]() | The Alberta team wore these very subdued and tasteful purple, pink, blue, yellow, and orange tie dyed shirts (Purchased at beautiful Sauble Beach on Lake Huron) on Saturday. They sure did look cheerful anyway. And it would have been easy to find them if they'd gotten lost! |
| Brett Janzen, one of the Alberta team riders, and son of world-ranked endurance rider, Christy Janzen. Note that he is wearing the "official" Alberta team shirt. As opposed to the tasteful tie-dye shown above. | ![]() |
![]() | The hard working Pulse and Respiration team consisted of (L to R) Diane Willis, Shannon Walton, Tina Fyfe, and Ray Fyfe. |
| Lise Harrison from Winnipeg won the Novice ride. She sure looked happy, maybe she liked the prizes... | ![]() |
![]() | Christy Janzen and her son Brett from Alberta. Christy was riding Traverston Cob, loaned to her by Nancy Beacon. Word is that Cob gave her an interesting ride. She and Cob won the lightweight division of the individual 2 day championship ride. |
| Leslie Danko and her terrific mare Twist A Borr took the individual gold medal. Twist and Leslie have been an amazingly successful team for many years. Both Twist A Borr, and silver medalist Denise Vick's horse Zaborr are by the Danko family's stallion Arborr. | ![]() |
![]() | Rick and Richelle Burnside rode in the one day 40 mile competitive ride on Saturday. They also very generously loaned a horse at the last minute to a member of the Alberta team. |
| There were lots of wonderful goodies for sale at the vendors booths under the big tent. Here's Assistant Steward, Di Regendanz, modelling the lovely new space age helmet she bought. She's not tall enough to be a super model, but she's got the smile! | ![]() |
